2007 - 08 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT/HIGH PERFORMANCE

The Player Development/High Performance Program is one on the North Shore Soccer Development Centres oldest programs. The program is open to both Boys and Girls from the ages of 6-12 and runs from the beginning of Fall to the end of Spring.

Player Development/High Performance Objectives

  • Develop players to reach their own potential
  • Provide professional coaching and develop new coaches
  • Group players based on ability and age
  • Develop all basic techniques
  • Develop skills and tactical awareness through small sided games
  • Develop basic physical components
  • Develop psychological and social skills
  • Inclusion and participation
  • Fun and enjoyable experience for all

Player development program

This program is split into three 10 week blocks and is supported with age group specific curriculum designed to teach the principles of Attacking, and Defending and develop all basic techniques with the use of small sided games. Players are assessed at the first 2 sessions and are selected into groups based on their current ability to work with similar, liked minded players in an environment intended to accelerate their development.

High Performance Program

The High performance program works in conjunction with the Player development program at the same cost. Similar curriculum is followed with slight variations to the progressions. Players are also selected to this program based on their assessment in the first 2 weeks. During the year we will form teams from participants in the High Performance player group to play in selected tournaments.

Whitecaps exhibition series for U-10 thru U-12 boys and Girls

As a partner of the Vancouver Whitecap organization the NSSDC will participate in a tournament series at SFU vs. Vancouver Whitecap prospect teams and other invited Lower Mainland academies in the selected age groups. These tournaments will take place a various times throughout the year. For more info Click Here

Professional Coach

Player Development /High Performance age groups will have its own dedicated Head Coach. All coaches working within the program will be of the highest quality and must meet a certain criteria as set out in the job description.

Player Evaluations

At the end of each 10 week block players will receive a written evaluation from their coach, this evaluation will include both strengths and weaknesses and give an action plan for the player to work on to improve on the their weaknesses.

Goalkeeping programs

Beginner/Intermediate

This program is aimed for the 'new goalkeeper' and covers the basic fundamentals of goalkeeping.

Concentrating on the following areas,

  • Basic Handling
  • Making collapsing saves
  • Goalkeeper movement

Advanced

This program still covers the same areas of the Beginner program however it goes into the above areas in more detail and to a more advanced/higher level. This program is suited to goalkeepers who have a basic understanding/ability of the position and are looking to improve on their skills.

Concentrating on the following areas,

  • Dealing with crossed balls
  • Distribution ( kicking + throwing)
  • Speed and agility
  • Positioning

NSSDC COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) and British Columbia Soccer Association (BCSA) provide an extensive array of progressive coach certification programs which are explained in detail by visiting the BCSA website address below.

Through its unique designation as an official BCSA District Development Centre ** Place link here to NSSDC website explaining this function** the North Shore Soccer Development Center is licensed to offer the Community Coach Certification series to the North Shore club coaches.

The NSSDC member clubs, North Shore Girls, Lions Gate Soccer Ass., Lynn Valley Soccer Ass. and Mount Seymour Soccer Ass. takes advantage of this opportunity by providing all its club coaches a mandatory coach certification program beginning at the U-6 / U-7 entry level.

This program is now in its 7th year and is proud to have placed 500 North Shore coaches on the official CSA / BCSA coach certification path.

What it means to you as a coach of the team and also you as parent of each player

At the beginning of each new season in September the new U-7 coaches and players come in to the NSSDC center on alternate Saturdays to work with the Licensed NSSDC Staff coaches. The teams and its coaches will participate in 6 Saturday on field sessions for 1.5 hours ending in December.

Prior to the start of the program the NSSDC will provide each club coach an official program curriculum guide which will be delivered both electronically and on the NSSDC website in the form of easy to understand lesson plans. The club team coaches will also be offered an on field coaching clinic to prepare them for the course. Once the season begins NSSDC Staff will provide ongoing mentorship to the club coaches.

The NSSDC prides itself on providing the highest caliber of Staff Coaches to operate its programs. This NSSDC program requires a specific skill set from its staff and as such each successful candidate must clear a specific suitability test as outlined in a detailed job description which is posted on the NSSDC website  www.nssdc.net.

NSSDC CLUB TEAM SELECT PROGRAM

In partnership with its member clubs, North Shore Girls, Lions Gate Soccer Ass., Lynn Valley Soccer Ass. and Mount Seymour Soccer Ass. the NSSDC is pleased to offer the Club Team Select Program.

What it means to you as a coach of the team and also you as parent of each player

In each age group from U-11 to U-18 the clubs will have several teams participating at the "select level" from Silver, Gold and Metro level. During the season the clubs and their Technical Director (s) see it as an advantage to offer it s players and coaches the ability to work with a professional coach. This is where the NSSDC can offer its services as mentor and teacher to the coaches and its players.

How does it work?

Prior to the start of the season there are several steps taken to prepare all parties for the program.

  • The NSSDC will provide each club select team coach an official program curriculum guide which will be delivered both electronically and on the NSSDC website in the form of easy to understand lesson plans. Will be on the website by June 30, 2007.
  • The club select team coaches will also be offered an on field coaching clinic to prepare them for the course.
  • Once the season begins there will be a designated NSSDC Staff assigned to each age group and will stay with the age group through the entirety of the season to ensure consistency and maximum quality customer service.

The staff coach will provide ongoing mentorship to the club coaches and its players. Each select team and its team coaches will work with the designated NSSDC Staff Coach on 6 separate occasions on the training ground. During this time the coaches will work on the following program highlights:

  • Preparation of a structured training session plan.
  • Assist in the development of club coaches on field technical ability to deliver a structured progressive theme from warm up stage to its game related conclusion.

To compliment the 6 training sessions the program also offers the club coach the ability to work with a mentor NSSDC Staff Coach in 3 game day visits. Program highlights include the following:

  • Assist club coach with feedback to identify game day deficiencies. Deficiencies to be translated into training session plans for work in team training sessions.
  • Collaborate with club coach on systems of play and player movement within.
  • Follow up on each game day visit with a written game analysis communicated via e-mail to the club coordinator, team coach and NSSDC coordinator.
  • Provide the club coordinator, team coach and NSSDC coordinator a season ending written assessment of team coaches ability with a recommended path within the club coaching ranks.
  • Provide the club coordinator, team coach and NSSDC coordinator a written report on each individual player outlining strengths, weaknesses and recommendation for the appropriate level in the following year.

  • Once the Program begins there will be a designated NSSDC Staff assigned to each team and will stay with that team through the entirety of the Program to ensure consistency and maximum quality customer service.
  • During the course of the program their will be a series of on field coaches clinics to further develop the club coaches in specific areas.

The staff coach will provide ongoing mentorship to the club coaches and its players. Each team and its team coaches will work with the designated NSSDC Staff Coach on 6-8 separate occasions on the training ground. During this time the coaches will work on the following program highlights:
