Championship winning coach to lead Kwantlen Eagles men’s soccer

Vincent Alvano(SURREY, B.C.) Kwantlen University College Department of Athletics and Recreation announces Vincent Alvano as the newly appointed head coach of the Eagles men’s soccer program.

"An exciting challenge lies ahead for the men’s soccer program," remarked Alvano. "Winning is not a certainty in any situation but can become a habit formed when everyone in the program is competing for each other. I look forward to working with a team where everyone gives the best of themselves to the game and to the pursuit of academic excellence. When we have that, everything will fall into place."

Alvano joins the Kwantlen Eagles after serving as head coach and advisor of the Argyle Secondary School senior boys and girls teams for 16 years (1990-2006). Alvano has spent over 35 years coaching at all ends of the spectrum, ranging from high school to professional levels. During his tenure at Argyle, he led 13 senior teams to district championship titles and five to B.C. provincial titles. Alvano was also head coach of the B.C. Provincial U-18 Boys program (1985-1987) of the Canada Summer games team (1987-1989), and associate coach of the Capilano Blues (1986-1988).

"We are very excited to have a coach with the background and experience that Vincent brings to the program, department and university," said director of athletics, Elise Le Brun. "His familiarity with recruiting, connections within the high schools and his involvement with club soccer will be a huge asset to developing a successful program."

Alvano's impact on B.C. youth development also extends beyond the field. In addition to coaching, Alvano is a counselor at Argyle Secondary School and in his spare time referees for soccer leagues across Metro Vancouver.
